(Vistin' With Continued On Back Page Mrs. Lusco Skipper 100 Years Old Mrs. Lusco Skipper of Green Creek celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, April 17th. She will be a guest of honor at a reception on Sunday, April 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Green Creek First Baptist Church. A native of the Big Level Section of Polk County, she was the former Lusco Gosnell Her husband. Feed G. Skipper died in 1967. She has eight children: Gladys Nanney of Danville. Va.; Elsie Tate of Los Angeles, Calif ; Odessa Powell, Green Creek; Roy Skipper, Spartanburg. S.C.; Juanita McGuire, Anderson. S.C.; Hester Beatty Burnett, Spartanburg, S.C.; Dorothy Stephens, Green Creek and Florida; Arnold Skipper. Green Creek. She has 23 grandchildren. 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Women’s Track Saturday Polk County at the University of Tennessee Invitational at Knoxville Softball Friday Whitmire at Landrum Wins Pulitzer The staff of the San Jose (California) Mercury News, which published with the aid of emergency generators in the aftermath of last October 17th’s earthquake, won the Pulitzer Prize for its general news coverage of the disaster. The Mercury News not only published its own comprehensive coverage but printed papers for a competitor. Among the staff is Ron Coddington, Assistant Art Director, who with his wife, Anne, resides in Santa Clara. He is the son of Ronald and Carol Coddington of Columbus. A New Arrival Randy and Becky Flynn of 15 River Road. Columbus are parents of a daughter, Brittany Nicole, born April 16h at Rutherford Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 10'2 ozs. and is 21'i inches long. She has two sisters, Amie Lynne Bradley, 8 years old and Chelsey Renee Flynn 22 months old. The maternal grandparents are Betty Calvert of Columbus and the late James Calvert. The paternal grandparents are Allen and Kay H Lutz of Saluda and the late Lyle Flynn. The maternal great- grandmother is Ruby Knight of Greenville, S.C. and the paternal great-grandparents are Donald and Viola Henderson of Lake Lanier and Lewis and Margaret Flynn of Lyman. S.C.
